Lather, Rinse, Repeat • September 16 - November 2
Opening Reception September 16, 2pm-5pm
For this juried exhibition entitled, “Lather, Rinse, Repeat”, Hamilton Street Gallery has chosen the work of 33 artists that focus on our crowning glory, better known as hair. Be it curly, flat, thick, thinning, frizzy, fly-away, or pin straight, hair leaves a lasting impression. It is definitive to one’s character, as well as to one’s face. The selected artists were adventurous in providing a wide scope of subject matter illustrating the many customs and rituals involved in hair culture. The exhibit also offers a rich variety of media, including painting, collage, sculpture, photography, pen, and ink, colored pencil, watercolor, found object and much more. In addition, a performance artist will be cutting her own hair, which has a special karmic significance, in that the space that Hamilton Street Gallery now occupies, was once a hair salon.
