This concert will be held in solidarity with Anoush Moazzeni, an Iranian national and permanent resident of Canada who lives in Quebec City. She is an internationally known concert pianist who performs from the traditional and contemporary cannons and is currently pursuing extended musical techniques for piano including robotics and digital technology.
Last Friday, while Anoush was preparing to return home from a 3-week residency at the Banff Centre, the President of the United States made it illegal for her enter the States. On Sunday, a few blocks from her home, 6 people were murdered during prayers in her neighborhood mosque. The murderer was a student of Laval University, the academic institution Anoush originally came to Canada to attend.
This concert is a gesture of solidarity with Anoush and the tens of thousands of people who are peacefully, elegantly and intensely trying to live lives that positively contribute to the human condition in the face of aggression.
Performers will include Duane Ingalls, id m theftable, Eleanor Kipping, Owen F. Smith, Paul Sullivan and Ryan Wilks, among many others. The concert will include music of many types and spoken word presentations.
This performance is free and open to the public and will take place at the Innovative Media Research Commercialization Center, located in Stewart Commons at the University of Maine beginning at 4:00pm and will be streamed live by the University of Maine’s radio station at www.wmeb919.com.
